After two and a half years, Cantina Laredo has folded its umbrellas at the Streets at SouthGlenn, and the location has been wiped off the website of the Texas-based chain, which has restaurants in a dozen states (as well as the United Arab Emirates). The Cantina Laredo restaurants bill their cuisine as “modern Mexican” — the description that Richard Sandoval tried to trademark for his restaurants, including Tamayo. But that war of the words has no part in this closing.

And although Tarbell’s and The Oven were early casualties in this development, other eateries seem to be going strong; while the lineup is chain heavy, there are some independents — and Snooze opened its fourth outpost here in 2010.
