Q: I’m getting married in the fall. Who do you think makes the best wedding cakes?

A:I haven’t been invited to enough weddings to have tested every wedding-cake bakery in town, but I did get to swoon over two incredible cakes recently. One was from Le Delice (250 Steele Street, 303-331-0972), which did a raspberry-filled chocolate cake slicked with ganache and topped with marzipan flowers and leaves that looked almost too real to eat. The other was from Gateaux Bakery (1160 Speer Boulevard, 303-376-0070), my current favorite for any baked item (it won an award in this year’s Best of Denver issue). The three-tiered confection, impeccably smooth with ivory icing, contained a sweet white cake so balanced between moist and crumbly it would make a Southern mama weep.
