While harvest parties are cropping up all over town, other events are celebrating another fall favorite: chili. Groups are cooking up two very different chili cookoffs tomorrow: one at a neighborhood coffeehouse that’s definitely do-it-yourself, the other far more formal, but guaranteed fun, on the streets of Golden.
But both events promise to be hot.
KJ’s Coffee Bar, at 1710 East 25th Avenue, is offering its second annual Epic Chili Cookoff from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 9. For this DIY affair, bring your own chili in a crockpot (or some other device to keep it warm) and a serving spoon; creators of the top three chilis will get prizes — and bragging rights. If you don’t have time to make chili, “we always need judges,” KJ’s notes.
Golden is the site for the third annual Knock Your Boots Off Beer Tasting and Chili Cookoff. These chili contenders are being cooked up by amateur and professional chefs; you’ll just be doing the tasting. And the drinking, since beer samples will be provided by Oskar Blues, Boulder Beer, Flying Dog and Coors. The festivities run from 2 to 5 p.m. on October 9 on Arapahoe Street between 12th and 13th streets in Golden; tickets are $20 in advance for adults, $15 for chili-only or those under 21. You can buy tickets at the gate, too, but the price will be $5 higher. For more information, go to www.2hourvacation.com.
