Colore Pizzeria Moderna, the latest in a line of Italian cafes owned by the folks who run Cucina Colore at 3041 East Third Avenue and Cafe Colore at 1512 Larimer Street, is scheduled to open June 15 at 2700 South Broadway.
When I dropped in on Friday and spoke with co-owner Caroline Momo-Torres, the construction crews were putting the final touches on the bright space, which was strewn with oddly familiar red leather chairs. Turns out I’d seen those chairs at Via, the Italian restaurant at 1801 Wynkoop. That’s the space, still owned by Venanzio and Anthony Momo, that James Mazzio is turning into the Icehouse Tavern later this month.
“I love those chairs and thought they’d be perfect in here,” said Momo-Torres, who was rallying the construction troops in her rush to get the doors open. “I really just want to get up and running,” she told me, adding that she wants this to be a neighborhood hangout that’s “extremely family-friendly and full of kids.”
That’s good news for all those little league teams.
