Bruz Beers

Last year, Bruz Beers got its brewpub license, allowing it to expand its offerings to include ciders, wines and guest beers. Now, it’s expanding in a very different way, with the debut of its first film project.
The brewery, which was founded in 2016 and added a second location off Colfax in 2019, is releasing a short documentary, Let’s Get Lost, about one of its founders’ favorite activities: drinking beer in Belgium.
Debuting at the Belgian beer-centric brewery’s original location at 1675 West 67th Avenue on Thursday, January 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., the film showcases Bruz co-founder Ryan Evans touring Bruges, Belgium. The project grew out of the brewery’s annual guided beer tours of Belgium, during which it takes a group on a ten-day exploration of the country’s scene.
The film was shot at the end of the 2025 tour by Christopher Austin of Austin Studio Denver, a frequent collaborator with the brewery. It centers on exploring the city, the culture, and the beers to share that experience with a wider audience. Evans says it might be a handy guide for someone heading to Belgium and looking to have a better experience, while “others that’ll see it will probably just enjoy seeing it and knowing that it exists over there and that might be enough. We didn’t really have a direct purpose other than to get the word out about how special the beer and food and culture is in Belgium.”

The film joins other educational content that Bruz offers, such as its World of Belgian Beers class. Newer courses, which are still being fine-tuned, will look more closely at specific regions and styles — which is just one of the ways Bruz is bringing Belgium to Denver. All of the content and travel is rooted in how Evans fell in love with the Belgian beer scene while backpacking in Europe during college. While killing time on the way to Amsterdam, he popped into a taphouse in Brussels and stumbled into a whole world of unknown beer styles. On a waiter’s advice, he ordered a tripel — a strong but light and drinkable beer.
“It just changed me. I’d never had anything like that,’ he recalls. “The glass, the aroma, the taste. I wound up getting two or three more beers and getting back to the train station a little crooked, but I had been altered, that’s for sure. I found myself going back over and over to Belgium while I was over there, and I started talking friends into joining me and taking the journey up to Belgium and trying all these incredible beers and started to figure out the towns and the culture and the beer scene.”
Runtime on the film is under twenty minutes. The Bruz tasting room will be open to grab a beer prior to the film, with a Q&A and time to mingle after the showing.
Evans says Bruges may be a jumping-off point for more films centered around specific cities, depending on the reception.
“We might take on some more towns like that. If people connect with it, we’ll certainly do more,” he notes. “Bruges is a pretty approachable town for most travelers. It’s easy to get to from Brussels, and it’s got a lot to offer. We thought, what a great way to start the series, if it even becomes a series. I mean, we’ve got so many great relationships and friends over there. Everyone can show up to Brussels, (but) who can really tell you how to spend your time wisely?”

After the showing on January 15, the film will be uploaded to the Bruz Youtube channel. For the beer lover who can’t make the premier and wants to pull it up online to enjoy with just the right cold beverage, Evans says a Belgian tripel would be his go-to.
“That’s what started it all. That was the beer that got it started for me,” he notes, adding that the same was true for co-founder and brewmaster Charlie Gottenkieny. “It’s the first beer we brewed together to open the brewery and it’s still my favorite style to this day. But you know, we’re in the winter months, too, and if it’s a snowy night, maybe a quad (quadrupel). Get the shoveling done, and then grab the quad. If you’ve got a fireplace, start it up and sip the quad and watch the movie.”
