Planet Sub opened on California Street just off the 16th Street Mall in January 2014. But the sandwiches never caught on and now signs are up on the door announcing that this location has closed. Planet Sub originated in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1998 but traces its roots back to a sandwich shop called Yello Sub that opened in 1979 near the University of Kansas.
The sign on the door at 1617 California notes that new franchises could soon hit other parts of Denver, but for now you’ll have to drive east — way east — to get a fix, since there are no other Planet Sub locations in Colorado.
