My Pizza Peel — and yes, that’s the real name (a pizza peel is the long-handled shovel used to pull a pie out of the oven) — opens today, right on the side of the Magnolia Hotel, at 1645 Stout Street, with a slogan on the sign that promises “A Slice of New York.”
And today, My Pizza Peel is serving up a very generous slice. From 10 a.m. (when the doors open) until 6 p.m., My Pizza Peel will offer every customer a free slice (with soft drink) as part of its “Take a Slice Out of Homelessness” effort: In exchange for the free food, customers are encouraged to donate ($5 is suggested) to Denver’s Road Home, the city’s efforts to end homelessness.
My Pizza Peel is brought to us by John Keily, a New Yorker who also opened both outposts of the
Garlic Knot in Ken Caryl and Roxborough Park, and Johnny’s New York
Pizza in Lakewood. And it will be serving much more than pizza: Italian entrees
(with daily specials, including baked ravioli on Mondays), salads,
calzones, appetizers. The hours are as extensive as the menu — from 10
a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to midnight on weekends.
