Reader support matters more than ever
We're in the final stretch of our summer campaign. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the journalism our community relies on. Reader support is helping shape the future of local news.
Smother love: It’s easy being green in Denver in September, when the smell of roasting chiles overrides the odor of exhaust along Federal Boulevard, and the green chile at your favorite Mexican joint carries the heat of the new harvest.
For the next several weeks, Cafe Society will feature some of our favorite green chiles. We started yesterday with Phil’s Place. Today, we’re dishing up a green chile served on the other side of town, at a spot where mariachis often serenade your meal. When this green smothers a dish, it’s smooth — but when you order it as a plate, it comes studded with tender pork.
Can you guess where I’m eating?
