Happy fifth birthday to Dubbel Dutch, a tiny store and deli at 4974 Lowell Boulevard that sells Dutch gift items like wooden shoes, as well as groceries and such specialty items as stroopwafels (syrup waffle), speculaasjes (windmill cookies), hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), poffertjes (little pancakes), kaas (cheeses) and dropjes (licorice).
Of course, Dubbel Dutch could be making up all those names. But we’re guessing they’re legit, since the owner moved here from the Netherlands in 1999. Although the birthday party took place November 8, the store is having a sale all week to celebrate.
