$20,000

Less than a week after Veggie Girl Amber Taufen waxed rhapsodic about a recent meal at Masalaa, the vegetarian Indian joint at 3140 South Parker Road, the quarters are dark, the only sign of life a typed sign taped to the window citing a “temporary closure” due to “maintenance” issues.

Commenters who read Taufen’s post have their own theories as to why the restaurant doesn’t have light, including rumors that the owner didn’t pay his staff, or that it was shuttered by the health department, but a quick perusal of Masalaa’s latest Tri-County Health Inspection report, conducted on November 1, 2010 — just two months ago — doesn’t point to that scenario, even if a previous report, posted on October 27, 2010, wasn’t exactly glowing. The website is still active, and while a phone call to Masalaa wasn’t answered by anyone on the staff, it did go to voice mail, a positive sign in these times of robotic disconnect announcements.

We’ll continue to dig and let you know what we find out.
