Westword‘s staff trudged their way through many of the dining options in Black Hawk and Central City for last week’s cover story, wrapping their jaws around everything from a bargain-priced $2.99 prime rib to a burger and ice cream at Crook’s Palace, the only joint in town not located in a casino.
Now Black Hawk’s town’s dining choices are about to increase by one.
The Lady Luck Casino, 340 Main Street, which recently hosted a competitive eating contest involving Rocky Mountain oysters, is opening Otis & Henry’s Bar and Grill, a concept created for the Isle of Capri properties. The casual spot will serve comfort-food classics, such as macaroni and cheese and pot roast, in addition to a few Colorado-inspired selections crafted by chef Eric Benner, who has designed menus for three other Otis & Henry’s restaurants across the country.
In Colorado, Benner says, he’s placed the emphasis on breakfast and lunch. “We saw it as an opportunity in the market to go for really good breakfast, so we’ll be serving it all day,” he explains.
He’ll also be sourcing from Colorado producers when possible, and channeling the state’s interest in healthier dishes and Southwestern fare to create what he hopes is a restaurant that will appeal to both locals and tourists. “Lady Luck is a large organization, but we don’t want to feel like a corporate cookie-cutter place,” Benner says. “We want to be attuned to the area.”
Otis & Henry’s opens on October 27 for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
