Il Vicino, which opened on South Gaylord Street last week, now has a sibling gelateria and coffeehouse. Veloce officially opened yesterday on the front patio, and is serving a half-dozen flavors of Little Man Ice Cream, including classic pistachio and the more unusual mango-habenero.
Owner Rick Post hopes that the gelateria will add to the neighborhood feeling of the corner where he opened Il Vicino, creating a place where locals can sit and relax.
“We made it a pocket park and cut out the concrete and put in flower gardens and a vegetable garden,” he says. “It became natural that’s what needed to be there.”
Veloce is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
