Pizza Alley Reopens Today After Nearly Two Years on Pause

“It looks so much better — it looks brand new,” says Brianna Thompson, who worked as a manager at Pizza Alley for four years before the eatery at 3499 West 32nd Avenue shut down in December 2023. At the time, a sign on the door blamed the closure on mechanical issues, but soon notices about back rent and taxes were posted.

It’s been a long wait — but on Monday, September 15, Pizza Alley will begin serving again.

In April 2024, another local restaurant owner stepped in to revive the Highland spot that’s been a favorite since 1976. Khagendra Gurung, who owns Himchuli Indian and Nepali restaurant next door to the pizzeria in Highland Square as well as Mazevo Mediterranean Eatery on Tennyson Street and Evergreen’s Cuisine of Himalayas, has put a lot of work into renovating the space. According to Thompson, everything from the electrical and plumbing systems to the hood system has been replaced.

Some familiar employees will be on hand for the reopening, including Thompson and her husband, Jordan Thompson, who also worked as a manager at Pizza Alley before its 2023 closure, though much of the staff is new. “It should be interesting,” Thompson says of opening day, adding that guests should be patient as the team settles into their new digs.

While the interior may be all-new, one thing remains the same. “The recipes haven’t changed,” Thompson assures fans, who should expect their favorites to taste the same.

Pizza Alley is located at 3499 West 32nd Avenue and is now open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
