It’s been over a year since Leven Deli expanded its brand and operations to the Leven Supply in Wash Park and by all indications, the offshoot has proven a success. Its addition of pizza to the Leven lineup has won a loyal following (along with what might be the best oatmeal raisin cookies in the city), and last August, it tacked on a wine club subscription.
So it comes as no small shock to learn that Leven Supply has been seized by the State of Colorado for non-payment of taxes. According to the notice pasted to the front door of the shop at Logan and Alameda, the total owed is just over $140,000, including sales tax, sales license and wage withholding, with the violations dating back to March 2025.
There’s even a notice of public sale to auction off the entire inventory, furniture, equipment and more to satisfy the dept, albeit no auction date is listed yet.
According to a statement from Leven Supply owner Anthony Lygizos, that drastic step may not be necessary.

Leven Deli Co.
“We’re dealing with an unfortunate situation resulting from a former third-party accounting contractor mishandling Leven Supply’s sales tax filings and payments,” reads the statement. “That contractor is no longer working with us, and since discovering the issue, we have been actively working with the city and the state to resolve it.”
“Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the resolution before the State took action to temporarily close Leven Supply,” it continues. “We are fully committed to resolving this matter as quickly as possible and reopening… We appreciate the community’s patience and support, and we will share updates on Leven Supply as they become available. We want the community to know we are paying our employees today and going forward while we work diligently on reopening.”
A quick visit to the flagship Leven Deli at 123 West 12th Avenue shows no disruption in service; as of late this afternoon, it was open and had a line of hungry customers. Employees there assured us that they are being paid, with none reporting any wage withholding.
It’s not immediately clear how or why the two locations are managed differently, with different accounting systems that could result in employees at one location being paid differently than employees at another. Leven Supply and Leven Deli, as well as the forthcoming Leven Downtown, are under the banner of Leven Brands. All three, for instance, share a common Careers page.
Leven Downtown will be a two-story, 400+ seat establishment with a more full-service approach to the counter format of Supply and Deli, featuring pastas and full entrees. Its opening date has not yet been announced but as we’ve learned, new restaurant buildouts can quickly go over budget and get behind schedule.
The Leven Supply seizure is the latest in a string of establishments closed for tax reasons. In December both Your Mom’s House and Maggie & Molly’s Sweet Life Bakery were closed by the City of Denver for similar violations. (Leven Supply’s closure was forced by the State of Colorado).
This is a developing story. We will continue to make updates as we get more information.
