Raise a glass this weekend to Red’s Pub, the saloon that’s very conveniently located at 7330 West 120th Avenue in Broomfield. Too conveniently located, it turns out: Owner Red Nikkel has sold the property to the Colorado Department of Transportation, which will use it to complete the 120th Avenue Connection Project — aka “The Bridge to Nowhere.”

Nikkel, who’s run Red’s Pub for close to six years, has been looking for a new location in Broomfield, but has yet to find one. “We’ve had a lot of good times in this place,” Nikkel told the Boulder Daily Camera. “I’m going to miss the place, and the regulars, and the help. We’ve been like a family here.”

Red’s Pub will close after Saturday night. And this won’t be CDOT’s last acquisition along this stretch: The department is looking at least fourteen more properties, the Camera reports, including the one that’s home to Oscar’s Kabob and Gyros.
