We’re still looking for a revised opening date for Root Down, the new restaurant coming to 33rd and Osage. But in the meantime, we have two updates: Yesterday, the original opening date, they were putting in grass (!) around the former service station, which will have a great outdoor deck and garden. Come spring — not December.

As for the name, which a reader tagged to a Beastie Boys sample in a comment to this blog, the Beastie Boys were sampling the groundbreaking jazz album by Jimmy Smith, Root Down, released in 1972.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community. If Westword matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
