The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $25,000 by August 9.
If you’re thinking about heading out for some Mexican food in the Berkeley neighborhood this week, look somewhere other than Tacos Jalisco, which closed at the beginning of last week for remodeling.
A sign on the door states that the longtime 38th Avenue favorite will reopen on Saturday, January 2, with food and drink specials to help bring in the new year. When I visited a year ago to bathe in the restaurant’s smooth, gravy-like green chile, I wrote: “The decor inside Tacos Jalisco is as much a mishmash of styles and decades as the menu itself. Mostly it just seems cobbled together from inexpensive furnishings over a long period of time.”
We’re looking forward to seeing what stays and what goes with this weekend’s unveiling.
