If My First Bacon is too low-brow for the gift recipient on your list, and you’re shopping for little people whose toy collections are worth more than your collective assets, Dylan’s Candy Bar, a three-story sugar shack in New York City, has you covered: the sweet-monger has erected an edible playhouse of gingerbread, that’s selling for a cool $15,000.

At six and a half feet high and five feet wide, the cookie and candy manor is held together by love, magic and 517 pounds of royal icing. So if you miss payments on the second mortgage you took out on your house to buy the thing, take solace in the fact that the estate of sweets could provide ample shelter until the kiddos gnaw their way through the walls and cause the roof to collapse. Even then, though, at least you won’t starve.

Dylan Lauren, CEO of Dylan’s Candy Bar (and the daughter of fashion icon Ralph Lauren), says she was inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, adding giant gummies, mints and cookies as delicious touches.

“There’s also a lollipop tree inside, just for good measure,” says the Nieman Marcus ad.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.

$50,000

Good measure, perhaps, but not good fiscal responsibility. But, hey, after a couple of years of forgoing the penthouse for a lower class premium suite during our holiday vacation, we could all use a little sugar-induced pick-me-up.
