As you already know from spending every second of your spare time immersed in the Cafe Society blog, Alex Seidel, exec chef-owner of Fruition (1313 East Sixth Avenue), recently bought a ten-acre farm in Larkspur, where he’s producing vegetables and fruits, raising goats and chickens and, soon, sheep. He’s also paving the way for a dairy farm, beekeeping facilities and earth-to-table dinners.

But building (and maintaining) a farm isn’t exactly cheap, so Table 6 (609 Corona Street) and the Infinite Monkey Theorem Winery have teemed up to host a pig roast and pie-eating contest on Saturday, October 3 at the winery, 931 West Fifth Avenue, in an effort to keep that farm thriving. Tickets are $40 per person, and include a glass of Infinite Monkey Theorem wine (additional glasses or bottles are available, but extra), as much swine as you can put in your belly, and scratchmade apple pie from Table 6 and Masterpiece Deli pastry chef Deanna Scimio.

And speaking of pies, you can take part in the pie-eating smackdown, which will result in a few awesome prizes for the winners: First place is a $50 gift card to Fruition, and second place is a $50 gift card to Table 6. All the fun starts at 4 p.m., and reservations aren’t necessary. All proceeds will benefit Fruition Farms; for more information, call 970-260-0714.
