The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $25,000 by August 9.

$25,000

According to Clemente Martinez, the owner of Brandon’s Pub (the strange Mexican sports bar at 955 Lincoln Street that went dark last week), his place wasn’t closing so much as taking a brief vacation.  He insisted that the plan was to take a short hiatus, cool himself off a little bit after the retirement of his partner, then have Brandon’s (known primarily for its enormous TV’s and deep-fried artichokes) open under his sole ownership by Friday, July 3rd.

Unfortunately, when I stopped by Monday afternoon to see whether or not this plan had come to fruition, the front doors were still locked and the place looked as though it hadn’t been touched since the abrupt (though not altogether surprising) closure. Granted, the power is still on and the jukebox on the far wall is still running through its programmed slideshow, but the place was most assuredly not open.

Keep checking this space for updates.
