Aldi

The new year is starting with some big news for Colorado fans of the grocery chain Aldi, which announced on January 12 that it plans to open its first locations in the state in 2026.
Aldi’s five-year plan in Colorado includes adding fifty stores in the Denver and Colorado Springs areas over the next two years, with an Aurora distribution center projected to open in 2029. But where will the stores be located?
The company is staying mum on those details for now, but Westword readers were quick to share their thoughts on where they’d like to see an Aldi debut.
While vacant grocery stores may seem like an easy choice, Aldi Stores are typically smaller than traditional grocery stores — we think some of the recently-closed Walgreens locations in the metro area could be great candidates to become Aldi outposts.

Here are more ideas submitted by readers:
“West Denver is in dire need of a grocery store! The Villa Park and south neighborhoods (South Federal) are an absolute food desert,” says Jordan Bettmann. “One location that would be perfect is 10th Avenue and Sheridan. There are a ton of open lots and opportunities. A future apartment complex is planned for the same area!”
Bob Sholler adds, “As former Pennsylvanians relocated to Aurora six years ago, we’ve missed shopping at Aldi every time we grocery shop. Our neighborhood is ripe for a store at the Eastbank Shopping Center, corner of Parker & Quincy. Although Aldi always builds their stores freestanding, with the failure of the proposed multi-unit apartment complex, there would be ample space for a new store, with the removal of the vacant retail space.”
“I was so thrilled to see this article. I am from the Midwest and love Aldi — all the organic products for less! Please put my vote in for Aldi to come to south Aurora/Centennial area — Parker and Arapahoe or Parker/Quincy would be amazing,” adds Bridget Cupp.
“Dear Aldi Team, Please build a store in Castle Rock, CO,” asks Loni Snell. “If you do, you’ll beat out Trader Joe’s.”
Mike Strickland has this suggestion for the “perfect Aldi location: “In the shopping center at the northwest corner of Quebec and County Line, there is a large, vacant storefront that was recently renovated to house an Amazon Fresh, but Amazon pulled out for unknown reasons. So Aldi should totally move in there!”
“As a former Philadelphian, Aldi was my go-to store for groceries, and my favorite Aldi Finds,” shares Jenifer Ware. “When I moved to Denver in October 2024, I spread the Gospel of Aldi to all those unfamiliar with its name. I still haven’t found a store that compares! I’m a resident in the Elyria-Swansea area, near 43rd and Josephine, to be specific. This neighborhood is in a food desert, and most residents here are looking for affordable and high-quality groceries, like Aldi. It would be an absolute dream come true to have an Aldi in my neighborhood, and I feel it would even bring the community closer together!”
“I’ve been waiting YEARS for Aldi to come to CO…North Park Hill is a food desert and would greatly benefit from one!” says Emily Henke-Groves.
While the company says that the first locations will be limited to the Denver and Colorado Springs areas, readers are also hopeful for future outposts further north, particularly in Fort Collins.
