But this time, it doesn’t have to do with how much I love Super Star or how much I am looking forward to the opening of the new Super Star-related joint — Heaven Star — up in the sticks.
No, this time I’m tracking some staff changes because I just heard that one of the now-former chefs from Super Star has installed himself behind the woks and steamers at the new Star Kitchen at 2917 West Mississippi (and, allegedly, he brought some of the front-of-the-house staff with him, too, because I’ve got tipsters who swear they recognize some of the cart-pushers from Super Star).
I haven’t been yet (I literally just heard about this fifteen minutes ago) and don’t yet understand whether or not this place is related at all to Super Star (the person I got on the phone hadn’t the slightest idea what I was trying to ask him and just answered everything I said with a “no, yes, sorry, no.”), but from what I hear, Star Kitchen does dim sum by cart from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the weekends and a la cart every other day.
The kitchen also offers a straight Chinese menu, live tanks, lots of seafood and a room big enough to handle the massive crowds that have already discovered the place. Best advice is to arrive early on the weekends (the standard Super Star drill) or get a big group of friends together and book a big table in the “reserved” section.
