Devil's Food Cookery

The wait is usually long for weekend brunch at Devil's Food Cookery, but at least there's plenty to look at. The place feels like the house of a friend who spends all of her free time finding knickknacks and eclectic art at local thrift shops (and who probably lives in Wash Park, just like the eatery). While the red walls may have a few chips and the chairs may wobble a bit, rather than feeling disheveled, Devil’s Food feels welcoming. You get the sense that life happens here, which is why you’re equally likely to find college kids, tots eating Cheerios from a baggie and friends out for lunch around the tables on the tiny back patio or in the cozy dining room. Devil’s Food serves down-home fare for lunch, too, with everything from chicken and waffles to pot pie to pasta Bolognese.
