Two Marijuana Recalls Hit Colorado on Same Day

Colorado's marijuana industry was hit by two more recalls on Friday, February 21. That's six recalls since 2025 began, according to the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division.

The latest round of recalls included mold in marijuana, a common contaminant, while the other health and safety notice was for artificial ingredients used in vaporizer products. Between the two recalls, over fifty dispensaries across Colorado were listed.

According to the MED, five flavor batches from vaporizer brand Purplebees have been recalled for the presence of artificial ingredients, which have been banned in marijuana-extracted vape products since 2019. The recalled vape flavors include banana, mango, peach, tropical punch and watermelon, and were sold from June 17, 2024, through January 31 of this year.

Purplebees voluntarily issued the recall and worked with the MED throughout the process, according to the February 21 notice. Purplebees, which is part of multi-state marijuana company Schwazze, did not respond to a request for comment. The vaporizers were sold at 45 dispensaries across Colorado, many of them Emerald Fields and Starbuds stores that are also owned by Schwazze.

The other recall was for pre-rolled joints produced by Magic City Farms 1 LLC, also known as Magic City Cannabis. According to a February 21 recall from the MED, certain batches of Magic City pre-rolls sold between November 1, 2024, and February 6, 2025, may contain unsafe levels of mold and aspergillus, a specific type of mold for which state-licensed marijuana labs test.

The flagged Magic City pre-rolls were sold at seven different dispensaries in Aurora, Denver, Federal Heights and Longmont, including Magic City Cannabis's store in north Denver. According to the MED, the recalled pre-rolls contained the Gary Payton strain, and have the following cultivation license number on their packages: 403R-00319.

Magic City Cannabis could not be reached for comment.

"Consumers who possess this affected product should destroy it or return it to the store from which it was purchased for proper disposal. Consumers who experience adverse health effects after consuming the affected product should seek medical attention immediately and report the event to the MED by submitting a MED reporting form," according to the MED.
