A-Trak‘s bio notes that he took home “every DJ title known to man before he could shave.” How’s that old saying go — it’s not boasting if it’s true? Indeed. The turntablist prodigy founded the Fool’s Gold label with Nick Catchdubs, helped launch the careers of both Kid Sister and KiD CuDi, remixed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Boys Noize, and toured with scratch champions Q-Bert (in the Invisibl Skratch Piklz) and DJ Craze (with the Allies). Oh, yeah, and Kanye West selected A-Trak to be his tour DJ in 2004. Impressed yet? A-Trak’s signature turntablist style is heavily hip-hop-influenced, obviously, but he’s got a wide range of electronica that he incorporates into his sets, too, creating a well-balanced (and eminently danceable) atmosphere for gettin’ down. Catch A-Trak with Kid Sister and the Gaslamp Killer on Monday, May 9, at the Gothic Theatre.
