The Gofundme campaign to help Denver musician Joe Richmond is about to get a big boost thanks to the band AMZY.

Richmond, who has produced and recorded a number of local musicians over the years, was involved in a motorcycle accident in early October, seriously injuring his foot. It was only after receiving care for his injuries that Richmond discovered he’d been dropped from his insurance carrier and would have to cover the thousands of dollars in medical bills on his own.

“Joe Richmond is a very good friend of most of our members both in an out of music,” says Nick Billings, AMZY’s bass player. “This was really tough to hear.”

To help with Richmond’s mounting bills, the Denver synth pop group is turning its Halloween Hullabaloo show at Lost Lake Lounge into a fundraiser. Billings says the band will donate its entire $300 guarantee for the night, as well as the proceeds from tickets sales. The band will also put out donation buckets at the show.

Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $23,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
