The production on this album is top notch, and it thoroughly complements the impressive, rapid-fire timing of Anxious’s flow. This promising MC spits at a fast pace, and the beats are indeed well-selected, but he often lacks lyrical versatility. As a result, thematically, the album tends to seem a little monotonous. To his credit, though, Anxious thoughtfully attempts to blow away each and every track and he does an admirable job. Even so, there are plenty of corny punchlines and overused themes, and he loses some momentum on songs like “Kyle Orton” and “Echo.” Anxious on the Rise is a decent effort, but overall, Anxious still has some room to rise before he hits his creative heights.
