The Larimer Lounge is a Denver staple known for its intimate stage and live music, but this winter, the venue is bringing après-ski vibes to the city by transforming its back patio (known as the Treehouse) into a pop-up dubbed Ski House RiNo.

With a focus on emerging house and techno DJs, this ski-themed pop-up aims to be the ultimate winter night getaway in the city. The Larimer has been booking more EDM of late, and this is a prime opportunity to give city-dwelling ski fanatics the music they all seem to crave. It all started when Gwen Campbell, Larimer owner and CEO, attended a John Summit concert in Vail this past year. She says it solidified her understanding of the burgeoning rave-and-ski crossover.

"It's becoming a really popular combination," says Campbell. "There's a lot of excitement behind electronic music and skiing right now; there is a natural pairing of the two things. Après-ski culture is about celebrating being on the mountain, celebrating winter, and electronic music is all about celebration and having a good time."

Fully equipped with disco balls and unique lighting for each set, Ski House will be open with no cover on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays every weekend from its grand opening on Friday, December 6, through April 13. The opening will see sets from Palmer and EVCO.

The space is meant to reflect that intersection where raves and ski bums meet. "It was so fun to decorate!" says Campbell, adding that there will also be a new, après-ski-themed cocktail menu with spiked hot chocolate, a winter spritz and a chocolate espresso martini as a finishing touch to the immersive experience.

"It's a really exciting time for live music. In Denver, there is so much opportunity and so much fun stuff that you can see at any level," says Campbell.

"The Denver music scene is so vibrant and supports so many genres," she adds, noting that Ski House is an important opportunity to "support the scene at an incubator level where you're really close and immersed."

The new Larimer Lounge space is sure to pull you out of your seasonal depression after a 4 p.m. sunset. "I'm really looking forward to seeing people come out and enjoy it. Winter can get dark and dreary, especially in Denver," Campbell says. "We want to bring the excitement of the mountains and après-ski to Denver."

The free grand opening of the Ski House takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, at the Larimer Lounge, 2721 Larimer Street, with Palmer and EVCO. Follow Ski House on Instagram to stay updated on event info.
