There are half a million people in Denver, but it seems like there are only about twenty musicians to go around. The local scene is incredibly incestuous, with folks moonlighting in at least a couple of acts and the same names popping up again and again in new projects.
Such is the case with Eyes and Ears, which includes four Call Sign Cobra vets with other notable credits: bassist/ vocalist Michael Howard (ex-Scott Baio Army), guitarist/vocalist Jennifer Callaway (ex-Out on Bail), guitarist Don Bersell (ex-Five Day Messiah) and drummer Chuck Coffey (ex-every other outfit on Not Bad). Fittingly, Eyes and Ears’ self-titled debut EP sounds like an amalgamation of every band the members have ever been involved with; it’s got punk-rock attitude and a rock-and-roll heart.
Much of the disc feels kind of juvenile, like grown-up kids banging on their instruments just for fun. Then again, when you’ve been around this long, it’s hard to get away from what you know.
