So we've been listening to John Common & Blinding Flashes of Light's new record, Beautiful Empty, for the past few weeks, and man, have we been digging it. So much so, that we convinced Mr. Common to let us hook you up with our favorite track, "Love Is a Shark" -- despite the fact that the record won't officially be released until next weekend.

As timing would have it, the group also happened to film a video for the song recently, which appears to have cost countless thousands of dollars and man hours -- or a single afternoon involving Sharpies, construction paper and several pots of coffee, as the case may be.

However it came to be, the clip, which offers a literal illustration of the lyrics, is as delightful as the tune, which you can download for free below before picking up a copy of the album yourself at Casselman's Bar and Venue on Saturday, January 16, at the band's CD release party.

Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
