Get Three Coffins Ready
doesn’t need no stinkin’ vocalist. The Denver-based purely instrumental band makes dance-floor toe-stepping goodness that’s as much sock-hop shtick as it is rockabilly crass. Riding the waves of ’50s and ’60s beach-bum pop and crashing it into mid-’70s grungy garage, Get Three Coffins Ready offers an all-encompassing time warp of American cheese. But don’t call it a tribute: This is revival rock at its most clever. It’s musical theft by adoration, with the borrowed licks coming from a love of all things wonderfully tacky. The band’s been lured into the shallow waters of Western pop-music culture by its influences — and there ain’t nothing wrong with that. Catch the surf Friday, September 15, at 3 Kings Tavern, where the group will issue its new CD in the company of the Aquasonics and Unloader.
