John Vecchiarelli, Thursday, August 31, at the Mercury Cafe, with 40th Day and Idle Mind, won’t be here to kick around much longer; the Boulder-based singer-songwriter is moving to San Francisco October 1 in an effort to further his career. So this show is one of your last chances, at least for the near future, to see a true original–a drummer-turned-guitarist whose elliptical solo compositions seem obscure and revelatory at exactly the same time. Vecchiarelli’s is a craggy, intensely personal music that isn’t what you’d call instantly accessible, but give it time and you’ll likely find that you, too, will be among those wishing that the man with the five-syllable name wasn’t moving to the City by the Bay.
