The ‘Vengers, Friday, February 16, at Soapy Smith’s, make music that’s tough to sit through: The combination of their burbling ska riddims, infectious horn blats, spirited singing and commitment to constant onstage motion is capable of causing even the most devoted wallflower to get up and skank. The act’s debut CD, last year’s What Happens If I Push This?, is good fun for the most part, but it only approximates the sound the players achieve live and in person. Admittedly, the band offers no especially profound statements–but profundity can seem like an overrated commodity when you’re running in place in the middle of a dance floor.
