The indefatigable Australian band, which released its 26th album, Flight b741, last year and performed three shows in two days at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is known for dipping into different genres for each release. And Gizz yet again embarked on new territory for its single "Phantom Island," an orchestral composition that released in October.
In the announcement of the single, frontman Stu Mackenzie wrote: "Hello world. So our last album was 10 songs. Except we recorded 20 in that session. Here’s a track from the other set of 10. It’s even more maxxed out than the last one. There’s a whole fuckin’ orchestra on there. Hahahahahah! But for real, what a joy to be alive. A privilege to be making music for a living and to be here still after all these years. If you’ve been listening to Gizz for a long time, thank you. We love you so much. If you’re just tuning in, welcome to the cult."
In the October announcement, the band also dropped dates for the 2025 Phantom Island orchestral tour, which will be your only chance to see it next year. The band will play alongside a 28-piece orchestra in each city with conductor/music director Sarah Hicks, and will wrap up the tour with Field of Vision, a "three-day residency camping event" (aka a festival) at Meadow Creek in Buena Vista from August 15 to 17. Other performing artists have yet to be announced.
While the Field of Vision shows will comprise King Gizzard's typical rock sets every day, the band will showcase its orchestral collaborations at Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs on Friday, August 8, with the Colorado Symphony.
Keep reading for the Field of Vision lineup, which was just announced.
