Reader support matters more than ever
We're in the final stretch of our summer campaign. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the journalism our community relies on. Reader support is helping shape the future of local news.
The highlight of this year’s Skylab party (slated to take place this Saturday, September 15) is Lee Burridge, who’ll be headlining the Beatport stage. Burridge helped create a dance-music scene in Hong Kong during the ’90s before returning to his native U.K. and rising to prominence as part of Tyrant, his residency/partnership with Craig Richards. He’s since broken out on his own, thanks to several prominent mix CDs and a reputation as an exciting, innovative live DJ. Stylistically, Burridge is often pigeonholed as a progressive house DJ, but that doesn’t begin to tell the tale. Everything from dubby techno and funky house to breakbeats, electro house and, yes, even a bit of progressive house here and there makes its way into his sets. While an instinctive ability to juxtapose seemingly disparate tracks has helped Burridge carve out a unique niche, it’s his dedication to the low end that makes him such a dance-floor detonator.
