What does Communikey have in store for lucky festival-goers this year? Plenty, and one of the most intriguing options is Lulacruza, a duo that fuses Latin melodies with funky electronic drumbeats, soaring female vocals and elaborate guitar lines. Alejandra Ortiz hails from Colombia and provides vocals as well as sounds on the Colombian cuatro, shruti box, tar and kalimba. Luis Maurette, meanwhile, who hails from Argentina, handles the percussion, charango, Amazonian flutes and electronic processing and sequencing. The two musicians currently bounce between their respective home countries and San Francisco, making music. The result of their union is exactly what you would expect when folk and electronica crawl into bed together: an enchanting paradox. They’ll help wrap up the fifth edition of our beloved interdisciplinary blowout with Peaking Lights, Sun Araw, Brandon Brown and Tijuana Familia Ejival at the grand-finale Psych Out bash on Sunday, April 29, at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
