You’ve heard all the basic song structures in here about a million times before. Of course, simplicity is well within the spirit of punk rock, and the players in No Bueno! are hardly committing a crime by taking the first things they can think of — girls and booze, mostly — and riding them over the power chords and cut-time rhythms of their late-’90s punk idols. Considering that it takes about half a listen to memorize all the choruses, these dudes probably drive kids apeshit. Leading off the wistful acoustic track with someone saying “Now we can take our pants off” amounts to taking out an insurance policy against being taken too seriously. But it’s working too well: No one feels sorry for the dude who’s laughing because he has no pants.
