Airistotle — a.k.a. Matt Burns of New York City — won the U.S. Air Guitar Championships on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Bluebird Theater and now is Finland-bound for the global championships. This year was the first year Denver hosted the finals, after hosting a regional event last year. “This is like the Superbowl of Air Guitar,” says Nat Hays, the general manager for the US Air Guitar Championships.” Over the last two months, US Air Guitar held regional competitions in fifteen U.S. cities, where a panel of judges chose the best air guitarist. The regional winners were flown to Denver to compete for the national title. Airistotle, the newly crowned 2012 U.S. Champ, will head to Finland to represent America in the Air Guitar World Championships. Photos by Christopher Morgan for Westword.
