Safe Boating Is No Accident has just opened up shop -- a little piece of Internet real estate devoted to sales of Isn't It Fun?, released in September. The band has chosen to go an admirably realistic route, offering fans the option to pay the suggested ten dollars for the digital version of the album, or pay whatever they like. Yes, for ten bucks or even ten pennies (your choice), you can enjoy Safe Boating's intellectual wordplay and stripped-down sound.

And if you're at all on the fence about Safe Boating, the duo's latest video -- shot in Los Angeles earlier this year by friends and filmmakers Dan Plym and Tara Stewart -- might change your mind. Pardon us, but this fucking awesome cover of Danzig's "Mother" features Safe Boating's Leighton Peterson and his banjo ripping the deviant context out from under the gothy classic and injecting it with some sun-squinting and subtle humor. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
