The Fray’s story is as compelling as it is unbelievable. Less than two years ago, the band was completely unknown, playing sparsely attended gigs at places like the Little Bear in Evergreen. Since then, the quartet has inked a major-label deal, toured with Weezer and the Pixies, garnered a three-star review in Rolling Stone and had a song added to rotation at numerous stations across the country — including KTCL and KBCO, which started playing an early version of “Over My Head (Cable Car)” before the group was even signed. And last week, hot on the heels of being featured on MTV’s Advance Warning, the video for that tune (which was filmed on location at Boulder’s Fox Theatre and East High School) checked in at number three on the network’s Top 5 Videos; it’s also in the running to be picked up by Fuse TV. The Fray — well on its way to becoming Denver’s biggest breakthrough act — will celebrate the release of its Epic Records debut, How to Save a Life, at the Paramount, with local opener Meese.
