The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $25,000 by August 9.
The space at 2301 Blake Street has gone through a number of incarnations over the last few decades, including a run as Polly Esther’s. In June 2010, the Blake Street Tavern moved into the space after its seven-year run at its former location a block north, and in February last year, the folks behind the tavern opened the Basement underneath with a lighted dance floor in homage to Polly Esther’s, where DJs spun ’80s-centric music (and some tunes from the ’70s and ’90s thrown in for good measure). But at the beginning of the year, the space turned into The Saloon, a country-themed dance club that’s open on Fridays and Saturdays, and it offers free line dancing lessons from 8 to 9 p.m.
