It's rare these days to hear DJ Chonz spin a set from a playlist of his choosing. Most of his mixes during KS-107.5's live daily Traffic Jam are limited to the station's playlist, and when he's behind the decks during the week at the handful of clubs where he plays, he mostly caters to a radio-listening crowd. So unless you're like me and receive original Chonz mixes by e-mail or instant messaging, chances are good you just haven't had many chances to hear pure DJ Chonz mixes. Until now, that is. For the last week, Chonz has been spinning live from his basement and webcasting the sets live on his ustream channel. He's been pretty consistent with an 11 a.m. start time, and he's also occasionally been broadcasting live from the radio station or one of his clubs at night. Sample one of this week's sets after the jump.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
