This weekend, the weather will likely be warm enough to incite visions of summer dresses and cool drinks. You can get started with your summer loving this evening with a slew of party swagger with Damn Gurl, Ty Lawson at 24K or, on the hip-hop tip, with Anxious at Oak Tavern. We've got a slew of things to guide you in your quest to getting down, including erotic poetry, a Brooklyn-themed party and more. Page down for this weekend's best party bets.
Tonight, come and get Thawed Out, with the good people over at Damn Gurl. The cool kids are throwing a super sexy party designed to warm the bones and get asses shaking. Celebrate the impending spring weather with a tremendous dose of partying featuring Mothman, WERQ, Narky Stares and more. There's a $5 suggested donation, and the Whipped Drag Crew and Drew Englander (aka Real Magic) will be in the building.
Over at 24K, Ty Lawson is holding down hosting duties for the Ball So Hard-themed joint. The people are diverse, the fashion unique and the sounds most definitely supreme with KDJ Above and DJ Squirt holding things down on the decks. 21+up.
In the same building, Anxious will be holding it down for the hip-hop world with a performance and party at Oak Tavern. The rapping phenom, along with Right 2 Record and Lotus Concepts, are bringing you fresh hip-hop to nod your head to. No cover. Get there early. 21+up.
After you leave one of these get-downs, head over to Leela's, the 24 hour coffee house/hangout spot, for the Erotic Poetry Open Mic hosted by LadySpeech in celebration of the Women of the World Poetry Slam. The party starts at 12:30 p.m., and the atmosphere will be sexy. Freshen up and head on over.
The reggae world is being held down by Mountain Lion and the family over at Opal for Saturday night's island shindig and super sexy dancing. The drink specials are ridiculous (Red Strip, Heineken and more), and the ladies will most definitely be in the place on the dance floor.
Finally, Qknox and Brikabrak are having a joint birthday party tomorrow night that's all Brooklyn everything at Unit E (1201 SantaFe Upstairs). We love this. In celebration of two-thirds of the GirlGrabbers, Q and Brikabrak will be showing you how it goes down in Brooklyn with dope music, art, food and drinks. A $5 cover gets you in the door, and Brooklyn swagger gets you cool points. Do this.
