The Westword Music Showcase is less than two months away. On June 21, 130-ish Colorado bands and artists of every possible variety will play assorted venues around the Golden Triangle, and an outdoor stage on Acoma Street and 12th Avenue will host Diplo, 2 Chainz and more. We'll announce the local lineup this week; that list will comprise bands nominated for 2014 Westword Music Awards.

Those nominees have been announced, and you can vote now to help determine winners in each of our forty categories. But the trophies are just one small part of this whole effort. We throw the Showcase and give out the awards each year in order to celebrate Colorado music. It's the one time of the year that we get to step back from our role as music writers and simply enjoy the bands and artists of our state with as many fellow fans as possible.

This year, we'll host a series of Showcase pre-parties in order to extend that experience beyond stages and into conversation with anyone who's interested in the city's music scene. Those pre-parties will take place at Stoney's Bar and Grill on three Thursdays this month: May 8, 15 and 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join our music-writing staff for a drink. We want to tell you about what we're listening to, but more important, we'd love to hear which local bands you've recently discovered. Next year's music-award nomination process has already begun.
