Robert Dear's attack on a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, which killed three people and injured nine, was certainly an extreme act of violence. But it's hardly an isolated one.

The Reddit Mass Shootings Tracker has been tallying incidents in the U.S. throughout 2015 during which at least four people were killed or injured.

By the site's estimate, the assault last week in the Springs was number 351. That's a pace of more than one per day.

Below, we've shared every item on the tracker through the Planned Parenthood tragedy. As you'll see, a great many of them list the shooter as "unknown" or "undisclosed," but that's not always the case. For instance, this designation is in place for the Halloween slayings of three people in the Springs, which were committed by Noah Harpham. Note also that this incident made the cut because Harpham's death is included; he was killed by police, bringing the death toll to four.

In any event, the sheer volume of the carnage referenced here is both shocking and numbing. After perusing the incredible number of homicides, you may find yourself thinking that a June 20 Philadelphia incident during which ten people were wounded but no one died wasn't so bad.

But it was. It definitely was.

Even more dispiriting is the fact that the list continues to grow. While I was entering the data below yesterday afternoon, reports began to surface about the bloody mass shooting in San Benardino, California (Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik killed fourteen people and injured seventeen others) that got underway about noon Mountain time.

The killings there enter the roster at number 355 — number 353 was a November 29 shooting in Kakakee, Illinois, that injured five, while number 354 involved a December 2 attack in Savannah, Georgia that killed one and hurt three. However, for the purposes of this post, we stopped at 351.

If only all the deaths and injuries could be brought to a halt that simply. See the listings from January 1 to November 27 below.
