Charlie Monfort bought into the Colorado Rockies in 1992 when the previous owner, Mickey Monus, was exposed for embezzlement. Five years later, his brother Dick Monfort joined him in the ownership group. The brothers, whose wealth came from their father selling the family cattle company in 1987, have recorded just nine winning seasons over their 32 years in Major League Baseball.

The last few years have been particularly bleak...on the field. but even as a growing number of fans have called for the Monforts to sell their 64 percent controlling interest of the team to more adept and competitive owners, they're making winning deals around town...especially near Coors Field.

And judging from their comments on the Westword Facebook post on those deals, even baseball lovers aren't fans of that. Says Dustin:
Just when I thought I couldn’t despise them any more than I did, I read this…
Adds Kyle:
I don't care how much real estate the Monforts own...they don't need to own the Rockies. Period. Dick Monfort is single-handedly running the franchise into the ground.
Responds Dean:
I have always felt that he operates the team as a trust fund for his children and family. Which is a shame, because he makes money hand over fist. It was fun to go down there in the beginning with the Blake Street Bombers. They were at least competitive; I used to make the trip  five or six games a year. It was always entertaining, I will not support them  monetarily any more until the Monforts sell. Until they care, I don't care. Which ultimately is a shame. They're sitting on a gold mine. What a waste.
Replies Joe:
It's the bottom of the ninth in a losing game. It's past time for the Monforts to sell the team and focus on other investments.
Wonders Larry:
Is that why they've been tanking the Rockies for years? To drive down property values, so they can buy up struggling businesses from the noticeably sharp decline in attendance, from the Rockies' poor performance for years..

Concludes Neil:
Yep, they're ruining LoDo by ruining one place at a time. Next up, they're going to force the Giggling Grizzly out so they can build another lifeless, generic bar and make more money off of suckers. Screw the Monforts!
