Is Ken Buck the poster child for Tea Party candidates who were never into witchcraft?

Yes, judging by the appearance on last night’s edition of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report of Brendan Steinhauser, the director of state and federal campaigns for FreedomWorks, Dick Armey’s Liberty Movement-boosting organization. When it came time to tout Tea Party-supported candidates, Buck was first among equals.

Steinhauser, who came across as earnest but rather dull, wasn’t exactly a match for Colbert, especially when the host riffed on Tea Party punching bags like Delaware’s most renowned spell-dabbler, Christine O’Donnell. (Steinhauser distanced himself from O’Donnell, noting that FreedomWorks wasn’t investing in the Delaware race.) But among the points he was able to make between Colbert’s riffs was to note that candidates like Buck in Colorado, Marco Rubio in Florida and Sharron Angle in Nevada “are actually beating the Republican establishment — and on November 2, we’re going to beat the Democrats.”
