Today, December 15, marks the second anniversary of Denver Mayor Michael Johnston declaring a state of emergency over the flood of migrants coming to the city. Since then, an estimated 43,000 migrants have come through; authorities estimate that half have stayed in the metro area.

A week ago, once-and-future President Donald Trump sat down with Meet the Press to talk about plans for his next administration, including the mass deportations he'd promised at an Aurora rally in October, when he announced he'd launch Operation Aurora his first day back in office.

Although the word "Aurora" was not mentioned on Meet the Press, Colorado — a state that went for Harris by 11 percent — definitely came up as Trump described his first actions back in office regarding immigrants: "Number one, we’re doing criminals and we’re going to do them really rapidly. We’re getting the worst gang probably with MS-13 and the Venezuelan gangs are the worst in the world. They’re vicious, violent people. And you’ve seen what they’ve done in Colorado and other places. They’re taking over, they’re literally taking over apartment complexes and doing it with impunity. They don’t care. They couldn’t — they just are — they’re in the real estate business, okay?"

His remarks were not okay with some readers, judging from comments on the Westword Facebook post recapping that interview, though others applauded them. Says Crissy:
That’s literally NOT what happened. Trump is painfully stupid but knows his less intelligent, hateful base will guzzle every word he says.
Notes Gayle:
"Impunity" is a big word for Donnie.
Adds blain:
Especially the "puni" part.
Responds Jeff:
Don’t talk that way about your President. America has spoken. The woke agenda is dead. Liberalism is dead. MAGA is coming for you, sweetheart.
Adds Kurt:
There will be no place to hide. Assist ICE or they raid the communities. It's an easy choice: detain and deport the criminals, or sacrifice entire communities so you can make a worthless point of solidarity with the invaders.
Offers Dan:
Operation Aurora can’t happen fast enough. it’s already a go! The police and law enforcement are on standby. Just need the green light.
Replies Sally:
The Constitution and this country's laws will put a red light to illegal deportations. Remember, this is a country of immigrants.
Concludes Frank:
Colorado's on the wrong side of history, but it doesn't matter. Nothing's more fun than seeing you liberal losers lose your fucking minds.
