The NBA playoffs raised the profile of Nuggets streak-shooter J.R. Smith to the degree that he was included in “65 in 65,” a series of NBA chats facilitated by ESPN. Problem is, he didn’t show up for the session, which was supposed to take place yesterday — although he apparently kept the net guessing until beyond the last minute. Here’s the posted “exchange” — although perhaps monologue would be a more appropriate term:

Buzzmaster: J.R. should be here shortly.

Buzzmaster: Sorry, everyone! Looks like something came up at the last minute with J.R., but he still might make it later today. Keep your eyes peeled to this chat or the NBA section of ESPN.com for further information.

Buzzmaster: Chat is back on! J.R. will be here in about five minutes.

Buzzmaster: Sorry, everyone. Looks like J.R. won’t be showing up after all. Thanks for your patience!

That’s the Internet equivalent of an air ball.
