Last year at this time, we reported about marijuana giveaways on Craigslist, in exchange for donations or purchase of items like a $50 bumper sticker. Shortly thereafter, authorities declared the deals illegal. But today, Craigslist is overflowing with such offers. Photo-filled listing examples below.
Here's a look at the bumper sticker a service called Legal Chronic Delivery was selling last February, complete with a bonus reward of cannabis for those who purchased one.
But within days of our post, the LCD Craigslist offer was pulled down as law enforcers moved to put the kibosh on proposals like it. Denver Police Chief Robert White told Denver City Council that giving away marijuana in exchange for a donation or ancillary purchase was "illegal, and we are investigating as we speak." For his part, Colorado Attorney General John Suthers dubbed these transactions a "scam...indicative of some of the stuff that's going on to work around the letter of the law."Now that recreational sales are underway, however, oodles of similar offers are back in the Denver Craigslist Health and Beauty section -- and yes, you read that right. Moreover, one of them implies that a bigger threat to their continued presence than the police are licensed stores. "DON'T FLAG Please," reads the ad immediately below. "Call now! Write down our number -- businesses hire people to flag our ads -- so you use more $ at the dispensary instead of donating to us and getting even BETTER weed!"
